Week 24

HELLOOOOOOOO:)

Started organizing competitive league play 35 years ago in Calgary. Learnt over the years that most leagues cater to the top players.
When I created the CVPL my goal was to bring people together in a fun, fair competitive atmosphere for all skill levels of play.
After Covid it has been a tough challenge rebuilding the same league we once had.
Seemed everything that was built together before COVID was lost.
The once fun, competitive league, full of loving caring non judgemental players was gone.

Unfortunately it took me to have a melt down to be able to make a decision that I feel is best for the CVPL players as a whole.

Put a lot of thought into this decision on how we will finish this season for Wednesday league.
The skill level cap in this league is to big to put all teams into one group for playoffs.
Bottom teams pay just as much as the top and deserve a chance to win a piece of that pie.
Every year since the beginning of this league we have divided the league for this reason.

Players want more play and I want every skill level to have a fair chance.
I've made an executive decisions to overrule playoffs format.

Top 6 teams we will take a vote if we announce Top Male & Female now or after the next 5 weeks.

Over the weekend I'm going to build two new division with top 6 teams and bottom 6 teams.
Each division will play the next 5 weeks playing every team once. THESES 5 WEEKS ARE NOT PLAYOFFS.

This will give the players more play as requested and give the lowered skilled players a reason to continue playing.
They pay just as much as the top players and deserve the chance to at least have a chance to win in their division.

Playoffs Dates for Wednesday Open

Top half will have playoffs on April 27 & 28

Bottom half may have to change date to May 4 & 5 if I can't get enough tables together for all on 27 & 28.

Words of Wisdom

This is the original text from the book where Desiderata was first published.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
