2014 Play Off Results

Happy Easter hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends.

I needed a few days away from pool and some time to think about all that happened over the playoffs before I could tackle this news letter. It seems that every year I have to deal with a few unhappy players and over the years I realize I can't please everyone. All of the big hugs and thank you's from the rest of you wipe away all the crap I had to take in and I thank you all for that.

It was a few long days of playoffs and unfortunately the tension started to show in a few players. The most unfortunate thing is that most of the pressure was directed towards me. It takes a lot of work running the league, and playing at the same time can sure be challenging for me. All must understand there are rules to stop conflict, a schedule and format for us to follow to keep matches moving along smoothly. And yes sometime there will be mistakes but nothing that can't be fixed calmly.

Unfortunately some of the A side players had to leave and didn't wait for the results and the teams on the B side had to wait that for me to get there. I do apologize it took so long but it was out of my control and I thank all of you that could stick around and wait.

After all scores were added in both divisions I received a call from two captains one in each division that thought the scores were wrong from what they had written down. You all see how we do this, someone reads the scores, someone double checks the scores and you all watch me write in the scores than two or more with calculators add up the scores. I went over their scores and they are correct, my office is always open and if you would like to come and check your scores to confirm this, please give me a call a.s.a.p. Team winning names will go on the trophies on Wednesday morning.

Congratulations to all of you..were all winners in the CVPL!

Awards Banquet and Dinner is Friday April April 25th in the banquet room at the Westerly Hotel. Doors will open at 5:30pm, dinner 7pm, awards presented at 8pm and band will start at 9pm. We have 89 paid guests and a few that are still undecided, please let me know a.s.a.p. so I can arrange for seating for you. There will only be enough seats at each table based on who has paid for banquet ticket.

Sky High Shuttle Service will be available and sponsored by C.A.P. BIlliards LTD to get all home safe within the Comox Valley. For those that live out of town the Westerly will have rooms for $99 a night but book a.s.a.p. to guarantee this rate.

Banquet Prizes are still needed, if each team could donated one prize it would be very helpful. I didn't go around and ask the community this year for prizes because they have done so much for us over the years that I just couldn't ask again. I have donated about 10 prizes, Ray Limber from Scratch donated the Lucasi cue we raffled as well as 2 Q-claws, Breaking Bad Golf passes, water heater and lots of little nick nacks, Fergie & Danita donated back the Budweiser Fridge and Wes is gonna fill it with beer. If you would like to get involved and donate a prize just give me a call and I'll be happy to come and pick it up and get you on our sponsor list.

YANA 50/50 Raffles to date we have raised $1668.50 and I will get a huge cheque made up that we will present to them at the banquet. Little shy from the $2000 we raised last year but still great considering we didn't have a licence to do raffles for almost 3 months. I really thank you all for your support towards this great organization which has helped many league players family's in their time of need.

Vancouver Island Team Challenge is June 7 & 8 in Victoria. Unfortunately we can only send one team and I have decided to take 4 ladies and 8 men and we can rotate. I'm told the event is going to have longer days than any other event because of more entries this year. The rooms are booked at the Westerly Hotel on Johnston street, which is a two block walk from Peacock Billiards.

Team Registration's for next winter's session of play have already been coming in. As of today I have two teams registered out of Chalk and one out of the Avalanche. To guarantee your home venue of choice register a.s.a.p. on line at comox.pplms.ca.

It was a great season and I'm so looking forward to the banquet! It's the only time of the year our pool league family are all together, it's gonna be a blast!
Cheers!
Rose
